Description:

(formely known as Dungeon Keeper style notifications)

This could be a way to make the notifications less intrusive. Like in the game dungeon keeper (and many more) the notification appears only as an icon. When mousing over the icon a description appears, maybe going to full view by clicking. The notification counts down (circle turns white) until it disappears.

Vote on brainstorm: http://forum.kde.org/brainstorm.php#idea78252
Vote on bugs.kde.org: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=209402

Changelog:

Added some mockups showing job grouping, e.g. file transfer. Not really satisfied yet, so comments are welcome.

v0.3

Added a new mockup trying a slightly different design.

v0.4

New mockup showing the difference between the minimized and the full notifications, as there will always be demand for full notifications for some people.

v0.5
It also shows what happens when you move the mouse over a minimized notification bubble. Comments welcome!

I love this concept, it's an awesome idea. Yeah it could use more polishing, but the idea is there already.

Wish this could became reality...

Maybe you could give this idea some more visibility by posting it on the KDE forums (forum.kde.org) in the brainstorm section... I'd vote for it ;-)

It's already posted on brainstorm.kde.org.

Here's the link: http://forum.kde.org/brainstorm.php#idea78252

I've been thinking on some more ways of promoting the idea. But at the moment I'm a bit preoccupied with the birth of my second son. So this is something to take care of in a few days :-)

I really like this concept, but kde devs mostly don't. I talked to them about this on irc the other day and it's not likely they're going to implement this. For many reasons.

But I was thinking about trying to implement it myself...however, there is not much free time now. But if there is someone who understands how the notification system works and wants to help, I'll may give it a shot.

Well, that's a bit of a bummer... Could you send me the irc transcript? Maybe I could change some stuff in the mockups to make it more feasible?

As for helping you out, I can't help you with the code, but if you wnt some more graphical element or new mockups, just ask!

Ok, I sent it to you by PM.

I'll look for someone who understands the popups (studying it myself would take too long) and then I'll see what I can do...

i think the most intrusive part of current notification area is that it doesn't recognize if job/notification has its app in background or in foreground.. imo it would be more intuitive for job/notification appear only when its app is in foreground.. and disappear only when app goes to background or it's minimized by user.. and reappear again when app comes to foreground etc.. (of course ability to see all jobs/notifications when you click on notification area should remain)

I love this idea, the regular notifications are really intrusive.

Also there should be a way of auto removing certain notifications only (After a few minutes). The notification area is usually filled with 5+ unnecessary and outdated notifications.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
