I think this is the wrong aproach to the problem (just like ihatethecashew)... i would suggest a plasmoid that hides and shows the cashew based on if the widgets are locked or not (like the one in the panel)

You can now set transparency for locked and unlocked mode.

i dont know how hard it is to ask kde if the widgets are locked or not (or if it even is possible to do that, but i think it should be...) but once some can figure out how to do that the rest is a piece of cake :O

 Ruby Support

I really want to use your widget. But how do I get Plasma Ruby support? When I install and run it now I get an error: Could not create a ruby-script...

Thanks in advance.

I'm running Kubuntu 9.04, if that makes any difference.

For 9.04 ruby support seems to be in kdebase-workspace-data.

Thanks for your reply. However, I tried

sudo apt-get install kdebase-workspace-data

and it told me that package was already the newest version! :(

Here is a screenshot of the exact error, if that helps any: http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx14/bryan_crockett/error.png

Thanks for your time.

For just released 4.3.0 it seems to be in plasma-scriptengine-ruby.

Thanks pdamsten. I'm still running KDE 4.2.2, actually, so I don't have the package you mentioned. However, I found a bug report on Launchpad for my situation: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/373645/.

It seems that Kubuntu does not install the Ruby bindings by default, but they're in the libkorundum4-ruby1.8 package. Installing this solved my problem.

 Good call...

I want to chime in here and say that this plasmoid is the right way to go. Before, I used the other cashew hider (ihatethecashew), which was nice until I wanted to play around with adding and customizing new activities. As of KDE 4.3.1, locking the widgets does hide the cashew despite the kde devs saying otherwise. To me, this plasmoid strikes the right balance between having the functionality of the cashew available and eliminating this eyesore from one's field of view.

I want to add my 2 cents - this plasmoid is great and gives KDE users some additional choice. I can adjust the visibility of the cashew as I like it and works fine on my ubuntu install. Those that like the cashew can keep it as is, those that want to hide or modify look can now do so also. Thanks for sharing this plasmoid !

 How to use it?

This may sound like a silly question, but: how am I supposed to use Stealth Cashew? I downloaded it, installed a "new plasmoid from local file", but what do I have to do now?

When you add the widget to desktop it should show configuration dialog where you can adjust cashew transparency. Later you can access this dialog by using keyboard shortcut specified in "Keyboard shortcut" page.

Well, something must be wrong on my system: I can download the file and I can install a new plasmoid "from local file". I can then navigate into the directory where I downloaded the file and choose it. But after that I don't see the newly installed plasmoid among the list of possible plasmoids that can be added to the desktop.

What have I done wrong? I am using Ubuntu Karmic, by the way.

Is plasma-scriptengine-ruby installed?
What plasmoidviewer stealth-cashew outputs?
(Please send long outputs to email found in about/code files)

 Unexplainable behaviour on 4.4

by Montblanc on: Jan 14 2010

Score 50%

Let me tell you congratulations for this plasmoid first, it's just what I've been looking for! :)
I'm using KDE 4.4 RC1 on Kubuntu 9.10 and I've got ruby bindings too (plasma-scriptengine-ruby and libkorundum4-ruby1.8). I can easily install and add this widget, but when I logout/login, the cashew turns back to default transparency and there's a warning plasmoid telling me I need plasma ruby bindings, again! I can workaround this uninstalling and reinstalling stealth cashew, but that's definitely annoying!

I can confirm this. Not sure if bug is in Stealth Cashew or in ruby bindings.

I spoke too soon. When I killed plasma-desktop and restarted it, Stealth Cashew was still there, But when I logged out and in again I got that annoying error plasmoid again...

It may seem only a small thing but it annoys the living daylights out of me that the 'cashew' is still visible on the desktop while widgets are locked.

This solves that and I thank you for it.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
