 Container and tabs.

by prlewis on: Jul 20 2009

Score 50%

Hi,

I was just about to write exactly what CyberTribe did. I love the idea of this and would really like to see it implemented:

a) as a container, so I can have a "console activity", and

b) with tabs like in konsole or yakuake.

Great work!

It's weird, I still can't type a simple 'o' (KDE 4.3 RC3).

I checked it on two systems: One 64-bit with Kernel 2.6.27.25, one 32-bit with 2.6.29, both with opensuse 11.1, KDE 4.3 RC3. Of course Konsole in Dolphin etc. works flawlessly.
This is the strangest bug I've ever seen.

Little update: I can type 'o' in Plasmocon, when it is shown via the plasmoidviewer (BTW: Konsole shows me "Undecodable sequence: \001b(hex)[?1034h
").
But still no tiny little 'o' on the desktop. :-(

And this problem shows up in the WikiViewer plasmoid, too, so I'll file a bug report to b.k.o.

 some more requests

I really like this one, so here are some more requests if you don't mind.

1. Instead of removing plasmoid i think it should restart console session, so if i some day add this plasmoid i won't need to readd it any time soon.
2. speaking of tabs support - imho the "tab bar" takes a bit too much space, if it could be made to look a bit smaller it will be great.
3. still i want to have it as "desktop container" just like folderview can be. This shouldn't be to hard to do, i hope.

and thanks again for great work.

There are two different commands: "clear" and "exit". I don't think it is good if they will do the same action.

I haven't thought about it yet. If it is possible, it will be done.

hm, if I understand how it should be implemented, I'll try to do it.

speaking of exit vs clear:

there's yakuake which is also based on konsole and it's a drop-down terminal (quake style, you know)
and i really like more it's approach, where the entire app doesn't close but spawns another konsole session.

at the same place konsole closes it's window when last session exited.

i just mean - plasmoids, imho, are made to stay on the desktop for some time, that's why being able to accidentally remove it is not good (my imho though)

You should install plasma python script-engine. Try to find it in your repository by keywords "plasma" and "python".

 Plasmacon and Desktop Effects

by SoundreameR on: Aug 12 2009

Score 50%

Any ideas how to enable plasmacon to be semi-transparent like all other desktop widgets, when desktop effects are enabled. I use openSUSE 11.1 and had successfully installed plasmacon after installing some python packages (including their -devel versions). I've always wanted to have such widget, and now the only thing that is bugging me is the transparency, because this widget takes a lot of space on my desktop. Btw, the current profile on this embeded Konsole has 30% transparency, which is reset somehow somewhere in plasmacon, because non of the widget elements is transparent.

I have no idea where the current profile can be reset. I think it is possibly kde plasma's bug, but it is only my thought.

well, couldn't it at least use a container like the folder view. On my desktop, the folder view is like 90% transparent, but my plasmacon is like a black spot over the wallpaper :D It would be really cool to have it transparent :P

Actually I had started a thread on KDE Forum related to this: http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=84528&start=0

Even I would like Plasmacon to respect the transparency settings of the underlying Konsolepart profile.

And +1 vote for making Plasmacon as a containment.

I have some problems with launching your plasmoid.

When i'm adding it to desktop, it write that cannot create python engine.
When i had run "plasmoidwiever Plasmacon", i get "dantix@debian:~$ plasmoidviewer Plasmacon
findServiceByDesktopPath: not found", and it's work property, but not as plasmoid, as normal window.

Google adviced run "kbuildsycoca4" but it's not working for me.

I have installed:
KDE 4.3.00
python-kde4
plasma-scriptengine-python

Distro: Debian 5.02 Sid

Please, help me with it.
Sorry for my poor English =)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
