Description:

This is a Plasma data engine, applet and runner for public transport timetable data. The applet shows a departure/arrival board for a given stop. It can also show journeys to or from the given "home stop". It displays additional information like delays, news about journeys, routes, vehicle types (with icons). Timetable data is available for trams, buses, subway, trains, ferries and planes (using flightstats.com). You can set alarms for departures and filter departures (by type of vehicle, target/origin, delay, transport line string/number, intermediate stops). Filters can also be combined.
Timetable data gets received from provider plugins. Since version 0.11 there are two types of plugins: GTFS and script providers. Script providers need a network connection and can be used to read timetable data from any document type, eg. XML, binary or HTML. GTFS providers only need to import the GTFS feed once and can then be used offline (but a network connection can be used for GTFS-realtime).

News
17.01.2013: Version 0.11 beta released
30.12.2012: Version 0.11 alpha 2 released
04.12.2012: Version 0.11 alpha released

Installation
To install PublicTransport download a package for your distribution. If there is no such package you can ask the appropriate packagers for your distribution to create one. Please leave a comment if a new package is created or if you use a package not mentioned in the download list here, so that I can add it.
If you want to install PublicTransport, but there are no packages available for you (yet?) or you want to try the newest version with no new package yet, you can use the installer script (install.sh) included in the Sources download.
But note that software installed with that installer script isn't managed by your package manager in any way and may produce conflicts with installed packages, eg. if PublicTransport is already installed via the package manager. The script should be quite easy to use and also lets you uninstall the software again. You need GIT to use the installer, because the sources are actually downloaded using GIT by the script (from git://anongit.kde.org/publictransport).

There's also a script for packagers, that can download tarballs for all PublicTransport components for a specific version.
You can clone the GIT repository from git://anongit.kde.org/publictransport (read only), which also clones all history. From your local clone of the repository you can checkout all tagged versions (see the HINTS_FOR_PACKAGE_MAINTAINERS file).
If you want to contribute code, you need a KDE account and you can clone the repository with SSH from this URL: git@git.kde.org:publictransport (read + write). You can of course also send me patches via email.

Note: The Sources tarball does not contain the sources, but a script to download them from it's GIT repository and the translations from KDE's SVN. The script asks for the version to compile and install.

Adding a Service Provider Plugin
- Install TimetableMate, maybe not included in the packages, but in the source archive.
- The filenames start with the country code, followed by "_" and an abbreviation of the service provider, e.g. "ch_sbb" for switzerland, service provider "SBB".
- You can test your script and the URLs with TimetableMate. It also offers syntax completion with documentation and templates for the parser functions, that get called by the data engine.
- Also works for GTFS providers
- After installation of your plugin you can open the configuration dialog of the public transport applet and the new provider should be in there.
- You can also open/edit existing providers by simply clicking "Open in TimetableMate..." in the provider data dialog (accessible from the configuration dialog).
- Checkout the documentation of the data engine, it contains much information about the data sources of the engine and how to create new provider plugins.

You are welcome to optimize the scripts in the existing providers in the "serviceProviders" directory in the data engine source directory.

Comments are appreciated.

I think you'll have better chance for France to be added when you provide link to some web page with departure board and some stop name examples ;)

And there already is some french translation. And I don't know how complete it is. If you want to help translating, just ask at the french translation team (http://l10n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=fr, the plasmoid is in playground). But I think you first want it to have some results for france? Maybe the de_db accessor can give you some results, at least for trains, so you can check that first.

Sorry, but there are two big problems:

1. The site only provides static timetables for a single line and the whole day. So the data engine would need to download and parse one html page per line... Normally the data engine uses dynamic timetables, you can give a stop name and a time (and maybe other stuff like a date) and get a page with all departures from the stop, beginning at the given time.

2. The page uses asp.net, which makes it very problematic to get an url that directly points to the timetable. It's maybe easier with that site, because they only have static timetables, but useless anyways..

So sorry, that won't work. But I'm sure, that there are more sites providing public transport timetables for lille? Hopefully dynamic and without asp.net :) Normally those sites provide a form for input of the stop name and the date/time and other stuff.

@fixu: My first answer somehow vanished..
"again":
I already tried that site, but I couldn't find out how to create urls that point directly to their results site. The data engine fills in data like the stop name, date and time, etc. into a "raw url". And another problem is, that the site doesn't seem to have departure/arrival boards, which is a requirement for the applet. I could allow Journey-only-providers, when I have some time for it. But the applet is intended to show departure / arrival boards ;)

Sorry, but I found the bug. The city name replacements weren't read correctly from the xml. Therefore it tried to use the url with "bratislava" instead of "ba"..
In the next version it will work again!

But the atlas.sk-accessor works for your stop even without the replacement (because "bratislava" is replaced by itself ;)). So you can use that for now.

Hello, great plasmoid!
Is it possible to add two home stops, because I live in the middle between two different stations, and I would like to get informations from both of them. Can I add it somehow?
Auf Deutsch:
Super Arbeit, Danke!

Hi!
The simplest solution would be to add the applet two times to your desktop. Each can show another stop. But the results could get mixed up between the two, there's some bug in the data engine, which I haven't found yet. But you can try that.
But I think you want to show the departures of both stops in one applet? I can add that. The stop name should then be shown in the additional informations for each departure, I think.

Und auch noch was auf Deutsch:
Schönen Sonntag! :)

by now, the two applets on the desktop work, I hope they don't mix up.
It would be great if the home stops would be in one applet (as I know which bus departs from which station). I think there is plenty room underneath the settings of "home stop" for example with a "plus" sign, one can add a location from where he wants the information from (like adding attachments in gmail). Of course, the left up description of the home stop would not be valid anymore.
Thank you very much for your response!

You can now have multiple stops in one applet (with a little add-toolbutton). When clicking the top-left icon the current stop can be switched or the results of all stops can be shown together. To which stop a departure belongs can be seen from the route, at least if it's available for the used service provider.
The "Home stop" is still called home stop, because only that one is currently used for journey searches.. as home stop. But that will change, calling them all home stops. Then the journey search can take the first as home stop or the currently selected stop.

@takanowaka: There're no tabs now, but a space-saving menu button to switch between stops. It's shown after clicking the top-left icon, with some other buttons. I already wanted to add some more actions there, so that new feature had a good timing :)

when removing #include QGraphicsEffect from settings.cpp - everything works OK and compiles and install.
furthermore, diacritics (accented characters do not show correctly, and although this is minor detail, it should be fixed)...one more thing...
Bratislava trolleybuses are not correctly marked by the trolleybus icon - BA trolleybuses are lines no. 200-220
Anyway, your application is great and thank you for it! Keep up the great work!

Thanks, I moved the "#include <QGraphicsEffect>" into the Qt>=4.6-test.

The wrong diacritics are there because I passed the un-decoded HTML data to the script by mistake.. Fixed for the next version :)

And I now hardcoded the line numbers 200-220 in the script as being trolley buses. Do you know if these line numbers are used by other cities of sk_imhd?
Please tell me a stop where a trolley bus departs, so that I can check if it works (and if there's another possibility to know that the bus is actually a trolley bus).

And I'm glad that you like my applet :)

Trolleybuses are the numbers 33 and 201-212. You can try the stop Kozia, there should be only two trolleybuses.

Good news :) Trolley buses do now work with sk_imhd (next version will come soon). I just needed to add the string "Trolleybus (Trackless trolley)" to the vehicle type string parser. The vehicle types have a seperate table in sk_imhd, I currently have the following types: "streetcar (tram)", "express bus", "night line - bus" and the trolley buses of course. Are there more types?

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
