Description:

****************Vistar7 Transformation Pack for Kubuntu Jaunty****************
*******************Vistar7 - Because Vi is the real star;-)*******************

************* ATTENTION! *************
Please! Help spread the word! Write about this transformation pack
on forums, desktop customization sites, blog about it, digg it etc.
And please, please, seed!
Mirrors are also welcome
**************************************

Vistar7 Transformation Pack makes Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 looks and in some
areas works like Windows 7.
This transformation pack is for private use only! It was made purely for
educational purposes. It's a proof of concept, showing how flexible is KDE4
and that Windows7 interface is really similar to KDE4.
It is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DAILY USE because it comes with absolutely
no support, updates, fixes etc.
You are on your own with all problems concerning this transformation pack.
Tested on fresh Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04.

It was nice to work on this pack, but I believe that original KDE4 is better:).

 window decoration transparency

good Job!! I'm impressed and I really like it. I'm also not too fuzzed about that second user. I won't use it as my main desktop anyway - more to impress my buddies :-)

Two small comments:

1) Background blur transparency is not supported. Actually I have been trying dekorator, crystal etc to get that aero effect for my window decoration with little success. I heard compiz could do it. It replaces kwin so I wouldn't install it as my main desktop but for a proof of concept this might be an interesting option to get another step closer to Aero.

2) The second line of the clock applet, the date was cut in half since it didnt't fit onto the panel anymore. Maybe use the adjustable clock here?

Hope you keep up the good work.

You like it, because you've never tried Windows 7 yourself ... if you have, you'd know this theme is piece of sh*t :-)

I really think there should be a notification that you are installing a new repo.

Adding additional repository from samrog131

I downloaded and tried to run this in openSUSE 11.1. First I commented out all the lines that were specific to Debian/Ubuntu, like adding the repo. I know this won't give the full experience though.

I also edited the paths in the script to point to /home/vistar7/.kde4 because that's where openSUSE stores its KDE4 settings as opposed to .kde where Ubuntu puts them.

Extracting ran into problens:

Quote:

Extracting deKorator theme...tar: /home/vistar7/.kde4/share/apps/deKorator/themes: Cannot chdir: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
done.

And so on for each .tar file.

And:
Quote:

chown: invalid group: `vistar7:vistar7'
Fixing paths in files...sed: can't read /home/vistar7/.kde4/share/config/kwindeKoratorrc: No such fileor directory
done.

And it appears that Vistar7-configuration.tar.gz is hard-coded to .kde which again doesn't work in openSUSE.

However extracting the files and copying them by hand to the correct location worked great, I even got the Plasma theme installed!

Great work!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
