First of all I really like this set of icons, and the customization options. I've been using it under KDE for quite some time.

A slight problem I am having is with Clementine, that will show too large icons and mess up their displays. This is maybe present in some other programs, and seems to be related to QIcon as well, as I have seen on their bug reports
http://code.google.com/p/clementine-player/issues/detail?id=480

Here are some screenshots:

Keep up the good work :)

Looking at the pictures you posted I can assume that the problem is related to the following icons, that should be created also in 22 and 48 size:
document-open in scalable/actions/
applications-internet in scalable/categories/
folder-sound in scalable/places/

The problem is a consequence of the initial choice of reducing the total number of icons in the package to limit his weight. For this reason I tried to use as much as possible only scalable icons.
I'm working on version 6.0 that will fix these errors as much as possible.
Thanks for your report!

Yes I understand (and fully support) the idea of reducing the size of the package. And obviously it does work for most applications, except for these few that don't receive rescaled icons as they should.

Good to hear there are new versions coming :)

 Overall this is good but…

Two big complaints:

1. Please just remove the cryonic folders. The NC restriction is limiting and incompatible with other licenses. It can't be mixed with any CC-BY-SA content, it is questionable how you use it here, and it would be best if you just stuck with GPL at this point.

2. My LibreOffice launch icons now look like Microsoft Office!! What?? LibreOffice Calc has nothing to do with some X icon! Is this even legal? I don't want this crap, I want it to look like LibreOffice!

Otherwise, pretty nice.

Hallo wolftune,

1 Why you think it is incompatible and questionable? Cryonic's license allows to share, copy, distribute and transmit the work under the following conditions:
Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
Noncommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
Share Alike — If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.
And that is what I did, for them. For as I interpreted the two licences, it seems that the main difference between them is the complete reference to the author.
Please explain more about your doubt that perhaps I did not fully understand.

2 These libreoffice icons partially looks like MS ones but are not them. They are distributed with free license. Anyway I'm going to add in the next release (just a few days) an option in the customization menu that let the user activate or disactivate them. Meanwhile, if you don't like them, you can just remove them in /scalable/apps/ folder.

Thank you for your objections, and if I have not met your doubts please write again.

Thank you for the reply.

First, any NC license is *incompatible* with GNU GPL! The GPL says that you MUST permit certain freedoms, and one of these is the freedom to use the work commercially. By mixing NC licensed material, you are blocking the use of the package for commercial uses and so violating the GPL. Because you haven't really combined them in a strong way, this situation is arguably ok, but it is iffy and should be avoided. NC material is non-free/libre because of its NC restriction. If you really want to understand further, read this: http://openglam.org/files/2013/01/iRights_CC-NC_Guide_English.pdf

Otherwise, I discovered on my own that just deleting unwanted icons worked. I look forward to the new version where more application icons and action icons can be selected with the wizard.

I am overall very happy with this. My main other complaint is that the action items are not scalable so they look fuzzy in some cases where they are used at larger size and the black look doesn't work well in some contexts.

Still, I'm sticking with this set, just deleting the elements I don't like. It is overall very good! Thank you!

Now I understand the issue better. The problem, I had not considered, is linked to the fact that a part of the theme can be used with commercial purposes and another not.
I do not like. Waiting to decide what to do in the future for the present block the theme. By now it is no longer available for download.

Yes, unfortunately this is basically the fault of Creative Commons and the problems with the NC license. There has been a big debate recently as many people ask CC to remove the NC license entirely from v.4. The "SA" Share-Alike restriction is good enough to protect from unwanted exploitation and is good to benefit the community.

The main thing that NC does is make things hard in situations like this even when they aren't commercial. It could be that nobody ever wants to use any of these icons, the Cryonic icons or the others, commercially. Even if nobody ever does anything commercial, the incompatibility is still a problem. So the maker of Cryonic wanted to stop commercial use, but instead they made it hard to use with GPL or CC-BY-SA even when non-commercial. So the NC license is a failure. Bad situation. I myself just try to avoid any license with NC and try to explain to people why they shouldn't choose this license. Besides, commercial uses can be very good, and some non-commercial uses could be bad.

The ideal thing would be to convince the Cryonic icons maker to change the license if possible.

I've been using your icons for a long time. While I love the folders, I really dislike the new actions icons, fortunately deleting that folder fixed it. I have a preference for glossy and shiny icons. I find the latest trend of monochrome and /or flat bland icons depressing and boring.

Thank you, you gave me a great idea. I'm going to add in the next version an option that allows you to choose what kind of actions to use.

Actually, I strongly prefer the monochrome action items. They are much clearer and easier to understand and don't draw attention when unwanted, and I like how they look. But the non-scalability 22 size ends up with many situations where they look fuzzy. I really wish they were scalable or a larger base.

I also have a few problems with black icons on black backgrounds, but I've deleted icons in those cases.

Anyway, please if possible make these larger or scalable! Thanks!

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
