 HI

It's the first time I installed your Daisy. Okay, I have KDE 4.3.1 running now, but it seems to work well with it. It's a great Dock with interesting ideas. Unfortunately I am noticing some Bugs. For example the "hide automatecally" is always behind the windows. But it works all in all and this Dock is a nice feature what many peoples wants to have in their KDE-Desktop.

Now my ask is:
Updates and bugfixes are planed? I noticed that no updates had come since some time...

Thank you for your work. :)

Hi there. Thanks for the comment and feedback.

Not covering windows is not really a bug but a feature that is not yet implemented. This has been requested on a few other occasions, working on that to find the best solution for it.

Yes, updates and bugfixes are planned and being worked on. Just today the developer preview release was updated. :)
Will update and increase version as soon as the taskbar plugin is completely functional.

This is alpha code, meaning that not all features are implemented yet and the ones that are now may suffer heavy modifications in future. Definitely not something stable yet.

tooltips & how to bring to top

by janet on: Sep 13 2009

My favorite daisy mode is to have it as a vertical panel at the desktop sides. And I let the application windows cover it. But what I miss is an option to bring the daisy panel to front when covered by an application window, like touching (in my case) the left desktop border with the mouse as it is when set to autohide.

Also I miss tooltips for non-active entries. I only get the tooltips for apps that are active but as daisy doesn't provide the option to show text below the icons it would really be helpful to have a tooltip for the icons.

Want Debian Sid with spices? Get sidux at sidux.com - it simply works :)

Hi there.

Making Daisy reappear after the mouse touches a screen corner is very easy to implement, in fact it can already track the mouse position when it's hidden. The hard part is to make an applet cover application windows. It can be done with a panel-like applet in Plasma, but not for a normal applet like Daisy, that uses transparent backgrounds. This can only be done on composite capable systems, working on this to find a nice solution for it.

Added option to display tooltips for inactive launchers. :)

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Regards.

Thk for this new release :)
May you consider changing the X-KDE-PluginInfo-Category=Applets to
X-KDE-PluginInfo-Category=Windows and Tasks
to fit with http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Plasma/PIG#Category_Names

Anyway thanks for updating daisy. Great job!

Hi,

Drawer menus can currently only be shown when on linear dock role and when the "Allow other windows to cover dock" option is enabled. This feature will be improved for next release.

Regards.

 Some requests

Hi. Glad to see you still maintain it, two things:

I'd love to see it as a compatitor to Mac OS X's dock, but for that, it needs better animations. Are you planning to add that? (Like smooth rolling out of the desktop edge when hidden, smooth resizing of icons when mouse cursor moves over them)

And second thing - if I set Daisy to auto-hide, would it be possible to make it pop-up to the desktop edge I move my cursor to with a window maximized, so that Daisy would cover that window? Something I'd love to see.

Hi,

This update took a little longer than usual, but that doesn't mean it's not maintained.

Comparing Daisy with the Mac OS X dock is not really a fair comparison as of yet, Daisy has only a few months of development. Animations are still on a second plan, right now the main focus is features. A lot is still missing, plugins and a lot more features are planned to be included before working on the candy part.

Covering windows is a planned feature, but it's complicated to implement in Daisy, the way it is now, as it behaves like a normal applet not a panel. So, working on that but no promises as when it will be implemented. :)

Regards.

 Great plasmoid!

This taskbar plugin is really great. When you manage to make auto-hide appear on top of other windows, it would be also great to pop-up application launcher instead of opening applications:/ with dolphin. In that way bottom-panel could be eliminated at right corner.
This could be possible if in some way kickoff is loaded by plasma-desktop and by sending a dbus action to it.
Great job, thanks!

I am assuming that for the "popup" to happen, then daisy will have to behave exactly like the panel.
Or does it already?

I think with daisy we finally have a reason to have an "add panels" _menu_ (As apposed to a button) like it is for widgets.

Hummmm.... Interesting first KDE patch.... :-)

Right now it behaves like a normal applet. Yes, currently to popup over other windows it needed to be a panel-like applet. There are some issues doing that, the custom backgrounds for instance are a big issue as most of them use transparency, so composite would be needed. Experimenting on that right now.

Sorry, this update took a little longer than usual. But we are here to stay. :)

To add other applets, like kickoff, Daisy would have to be turned into a real container. There are issues doing that. The use of custom backgrounds for instance... Viable options would be to re-implement kickoff as a Daisy plugin or use the classic KDE menu.

Regards.

A drawer-like kickoff plugin would be great. However, classic KDE Menu is also very good.
Thanks for your efford.

Sure, can make the minimum size of launchers smaller. The image file gives a 404.
One question, you've added Daisy to the desktop not the panel, correct?

Exactly to the panel. I can't choose a size smaller than 30 pixels

Daisy isn't meant do go on a panel, but on the desktop. When adding it to the panel it will only show a single launcher. The option to add it as panel is only there for compatibility reasons.
Seems to be resizing accordingly: http://i33.tinypic.com/nv7ho0.png
But again, it's not meant to go on the panel.

Just add Daisy to your desktop, right-click on it and change to "Linear dock" role, it will behave like a panel.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
