Amor General Assistant

KDE Improvement

Description:

I've been pondering this for a long time. How about making the 'amor' application more than just a toy:
A general desktop assistant that other apps can interface to, like the M$office assistant does for office, a simple interface for displaying tips, tricks and help can be implemented to help the newbies (as this is definitely where all the LiNUXes and UNIXes want to+ARE making an impact) with whatever application currently in focus, this will add a clean, constant help-interface users can get used to (should be able to interact with current kde-docs and manpages also).

I myself has limited programming experience, and would love to see this implemented; not for me but I think newbies will love it!(Especially my girlfriend;-)

But, well... no. For instance, all newbies cannot stand that stupid paper clip in Office.

 EMacs and VIM Clip

This kinda reminds me of the User Friendly strips where Piotr has created the ultimate evil personified in a Paper Clip assistant for EMacs and VIM... That said, I think this is probably a good idea, as long as it's simply a program that you DON'T need to run, as a lot of us wouldn't want it to come up and ask "You seem to be dragging that file to the desktop, would you like to know more about dragging and dropping files?". I'm giving it a thumbs up. At least if this happens, we will have a unified clipper type app with stable code that we can decide once and for all if we want shown or not, and not a few hundred more or less dodgy implementations.

I agree that it will frustrate most users; but then disable it, the program can even have certain help 'levels' that can be chosen @ a rightclick to choose if the focussed prog must have tips/whatever enabled in the future...easy aye?;-)

To be honest .. it would be a good app for all those undocumented features we have in KDE ...

Seriously we have loads of those

I just downloaded KDE toys CVS, and it seems to me your feature is just being implemented (take a look at amortips.cpp)

 i love amor :D

i just wondered why amor doesn't evolve a bit ...although i hated the paperclip, i sometimes really enjoy the little Rei Ayanami (the bonhome's great, but i don't like it if he talks), sitting on a window and give some tips ...even though i know my kde quite good, since i use it since 1.x

i think that amor could be used for something like that ...but definetly not as the default setting ...maybe, on the first setup run of KDE, the user would be asked if (s)he wanted a helper for now (you know like it asks you which theme and so on)

...in any case i'd loooooveee to see new amor themes :D (yea, i know, wrong site)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
