Description:

I've been watching my cursor theme called "bFish" has been popular, so I decided to make one similar but with two different characteristics: swap the fill and stroke colors, and it was multi-sized. I asked my friends about my new cursor theme "Fish Multi-sized", and i decided to upload it to put it to the consideration of you.
This X11 mouse theme multi-sized in 62, 52, 42, 33, and 23 pixels, and is flat: no gradients and no blur. I have tested it on Kde with Kwin also Gnome 2.x and it works great. I added it symlinks for some cursors required for Steam, and all required for KDE and Gnome.

On Gnome 3.x or Unity I think doesn't works as I would want, because when the cursor size is changed, there are inconsistency only on the main cursor. The changed size will appear in few applications like firefox, but the default size (24 pixels) will stay in desktop and some other apps. I believe this may be a part of a bug of Compiz. Therefore, if you want to see it work well, you should choose the size of the cursor 24 pixels.

I would like change a few things so you can expect updates. If you find any bugs, please let me know in comments section.

HOW TO INSTALL IT
  • 0- Download cursor pack

  • 1- Extract it as root to /usr/share/icons/, open a terminal and use next command:
    Quote:
    tar --directory=Downloads -zxf Downloads/158979-Fish.tar.gz && sudo mv Downloads/Fish /usr/share/icons/

  • ON KDE
  • 2- Change cursor theme and choose the size cursor with desktop setting tools.

  • 3- If you want to make it the default cursor and see this cursor theme on login screen KDM, you must edit as root the index.theme system file located in /usr/share/icons/default. Use next command:
    Quote:
    nano /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

and then change the name present after of "=", sign to Fish

  • 4- Reboot.

  • ON GNOME 3.x or UNITY
  • 2- To update the cursor theme: Search for and install Alternatives Configurator in Ubuntu Software Center.

  • 3- You must add the cursor theme Fish, to the corresponding group of alternatives. Use next command:
    Quote:
    sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme x-cursor-theme /usr/share/icons/Fish/cursor.theme 30

  • 4- Choose the cursor theme Fish. Use next command:
    Quote:
    sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme

  • 5- To update the cursor size: Search for and install Dconf Editor in Ubuntu Software Center.

  • 6- Use next Command, changing the default cursor size 24 pixels to your custom cursor size. Could also use 64,56,48,40,32 or 16 pixels. I recommend 24 pixels, to avoid the bug mentioned above.
    Quote:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 24 && gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme Fish

  • 7- Finally, create or edit the ~/.Xresources file using next command:
    Quote:
    gedit ~/.Xresources

Add the following two lines. Change 24 to match size defined in step 6 and save it:
    Quote:
    Xcursor.theme: Fish
    Xcursor.size: 24

  • 8- Reboot.

  • Download install and enjoy it! Thanks.

    Changelog:

  • Jun 2013 v0.2- I changed the cursor background, now seems be biggest because the image size is smallest. Now looks better thanks to sotitrox by your interest to improve this cursor theme. Also I changed the cursor sizes, to match my cursor theme called bFish.

  • May 2013 v0.1- Initial release

Thanks for your comment. I have another multi-sized cursor theme called Alkano and it works great in KDE with Kwin, and also in gnome 2.x. You can see and download it in http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Alkano?content=158776.

I hope you like it! Thanks.

You are right. The Fish background of multi-sized cursor theme must be greater than or equal to bFish cursor theme. I'll change it and I'll send you a message when i finished it. Thanks

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
     Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
