i wonder if dantii will continue working on kpackagekit once shaman2 will be out.. because its promise of high extensibility makes it real kpackagekit's competitor.. or maybe they will coexist happily alongside each other ;)

more info on shaman2 http://drfav.wordpress.com/2009/12/01/introducing-shaman-a-new-universal-package-management-frontend/

 Not awesome enough

This is far better than the actual PackageKit of course, still this is not awesome enough : what people need is more like Ubuntu's Software Center (and even the Software Center hasn't been far enough).
We need more feature in order to find applications, or to allow applications to show themselves.
What we need is a communitary Software Center. So this PackageKit mockup is cool yeah, but it's yet another package managment interface.

In Kubuntu Maverick comes a new applications view for KPackageKit:

KPackageKit ought not be a congested-looking "software centre" where each of the categories is littered with so many things that categorizing them in the first place is of little use. If there were some sort of rating system it would be helpful, but there isn't. That functionality is provided in a "software centre". Perhaps package management should have this functionality built in so as to make software centres redundant, but presently they don't, so this brainstorm idea doesn't make much sense.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
