I was playing with GIMP and thought that perspective capable plasmoids would be an amazing idea. I'm sure someone has already thought of it, but I couldn't resist. I'm not a programmer so I can't do it sadly, but maybe this will spark someone's imagination :).

holy shnacker! Both mrfixit's idea and Ekardnam's modification of the idea are genius! I'm new to Linux, but something between the two is EXACTLY what I've been looking for to use as a desktop theme--something like a virtual desk with an open book sitting on top of it (and you can assign different apps or docs to the pages) and then some glass windows/picture frames hanging on the walls with widgets and apps embedded into them.

I realize this is pretty new, but does anyone know of any theme or widget that is set up to do some or all of this?

The mockup is great, but this idea still can be difficult to do right.

People can have problems with aligning plasmoids just right to look good.

I've thought about doing special wallpaper plugin, that allows people to set different perspecitve transformations for each region of walpaper.

So you could make "3d wallpaper" from normal wallpaper by writing some text file with specified region on screen to perspective mapping.

Then people just select wallpaper plugin "3d wallpaper", and download some 3d wallpaper from get hot new stuff.

And then, when any plasmoid is placed on desktop, it is aligned automatically to perspective good for this region.

This would be easier to use in my opinion.

I think we should create a whole virtual environment where you can put plasmoids in walls and also move around.

That would be great

Combine that with a virtual reality headset/gloves and that will make KDE indescribably awesome.

I am not a programmer either but is it really that difficult?I mean of course we are talking about a "fake" 3d look (well duh the screen is 2D).
The only thing that changes is the size of the icon or whatever object in a given "wall" of course.

So the "algorithm" about the size of the icon an architect or any man knows that kind of things.

Of course once again to mantion that is for a given wall...

Amazing Idea! Congrats!;)
Yeee You've got right.
I'm also thinking we should do some fake 3d, not real openGL 3d. Just some static plasmoids which can't be change. So :
Plasmoids names could be:
close to far (standing on the left desktop side)
far to close (standing on the right desktop side) and we 've got always impress that we've got 3d desktop despite of wallpaper. Believe me. Cause we've got semi-transparent plasmoids.
One difficult thing to do to make mouse cursor able to change its angle on the desktop center. And we've got great feeling. Test it. I tell You all:)
Hope someone great, some great programmer will do this... This is really great idea...
I don't want it to go to trash...

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
