---- edit #2 ----

today I've started to develop this plasmoid, at the moment it does not look like the mockup at all... I'll try to do the best I can...

 Few ideas...

How about adding the "Offline since" information as well than the online time?

I think many would like to see few infos about user.... "Away since" and "Offline since".

And I dont think the controls are needed at all on that list. That should be the kopete main UI and this plasma only as a contact list.

Since I'm using dbus for kopete contacts managing, and it does not properly cover all of kopete services, I don't know how far can I get...

A little example about dbus: if a contact is on "busy" status, dbus tells me that it's "away"...

About kopete controls I had the same feeling, at least I'll put a simple textbox for contacts search.

Actually the plasmoid is only a simple list, and it can manage:

1. contacts status update
2. kopete not launched
3. kopete launched but offline

2. and 3. are managed like lancelot does

The harder things to implement will be
1. account management
2. groups management
3. background transparency

Here a screenshot:

The plasmoid on the screenshot it's only a temporary solution until I implement correctly all functionalities I need, then I'll fully change list aspect.

Thanks for suggestion, I hope to provide something usable as soon as possible

Looks very promising! But I really want one for KMess, do you think you can make one for KMess too, when your Kopete plasmoid is out of beta?

I don't know, if it is possible to query kmess through dbus I can give a try... but not at the moment, I'm very busy

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
