Yakuake-like IM interface

Yakuake-like IM interface

Submitted:  Jun 23 2008

Description:

This is a makeup of yakuake-like interface for instant messaging client (kopete?). I found yakuake very useful and wanted some tabbed interface for IM, that will be one for all desktops, won\'t consume any space on any desktop, and will be always nearby =)
So, this function just like yakuake do:
1. scrolls from the top of the desktop with hotkey
2. allows you to switch between tabs =)
3. allows you to open contact list in it (maybe on the right side of the window? - don\'t have any makeups with it now)
4. closes to the top of the screen (with the effect, of course)

I like it. And i suppose it could be implemented rather easy, because of all those flexibility and power that new KDE4 and its plasma engine offers..
Hope there'll be someone to implement this.

it would be even better if this style can be applied to all windows (something in the "Special windows settings) :)

That sounds like a great addition to the idea! Make it a feature of the window manager and remember the rules for the windows. Similar to MacOS drop down dialogs instead of pop-ups

It will be good if this thing can be used in fullscreen apps (and games too)... Pause game -> your favorite keyboard combo -> write an answer... That will be really cool... But the popups should be big enough to be noticeable and small enough not to disturb the process...

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
