Description:

I don't know if someone has proposed something about it, but this mockup could be an interesting idea:

Mix the Media Devices & Quick Acces plasmoids in one, like an "universal launcher of places" or something like that, saving space in the panel (just one icon) and improving the accessibility (all in the same place).

A detailed review you can see in the screenshots!

Please, vote if you like the idea!

 My opinion

Separated Media Devices plasmoid has one but significant advantage: when a device is plugging in, then the plasmoid window appears and you can react. On the other hand, saving the space on a panel is a good argument too.

I thought what you say, and we can combine the two arguments in the right direction as you can see in the revision I've done.

Thanks for your comment.

 About notifications

The KDE's notify that it is in the system tray is for notifications. So, to have all notifications in the same zone (in the KDE notify) is better because is a unique zone, the KDE standard metod and it's less intrusive.

On the rest, OK.

...but you mockup is better than the actual system. Show it within a plasmoid instead of within a window, and only five seconds it's more beauty and less irritating.

+1

What is really significant in the idea is the first part: joining the places with the devices, because in the end all are places. The pop-up is just an add to complete the mockup, but you're right in both messages: the normal way is a notification in the system tray, but a nice plasmoid is more cool (and efficient I think).

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
