Description:

A bootsplash I've made, with the help of Exdaix, *with* configfile :-)

Changelog:

25/07/2003: Since everyone seems to want this so much :p You can get the jpegs for every common distribution at
http://www.saltwater.be/_files/blacktux/
(Please mirror them because my bandwidth is limited and I will have to take them offline if I exceed it)

24/07/2003: Added a fully working config file! I took Exdaix (Thanks Exdaix) config file and modified it so the gradient looks exaclty like in the screenshot (with the blue bar). The current screenshots are not made with the gimp but are actual screenshots of my boot process.

If you want to know how to patch and compile your kernel for bootsplash, take a look at http://www.bootsplash.org/ or, for gentoo (and other users) http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=49036

If you have ttf messages enabled, you might want to get the font I used at http://www.dafont.com/dl.php?os=win&fichier=usenet

Gentoo users will probably want this patch to get the progressbar going: http://www.aichler.net/gentoo/bootsplash/
I got a hard time setting up bootsplash under gentoo, especially getting the progress bar to move. This was caused in a what I think is a bug in the splash wrapper. So if the progressbar still doesn't work after applying the patch from aichler.net: edit /sbin/splash (no, it is not a binary) and comment out line 55 (put a # before it), and type below : export res="your_resolution", for example: export res="1024x768"

For debian users, as mentioned by others on this site, there is this tutorial: http://bulmalug.net/impresion.phtml?nIdNoticia=1812

Enjoy!

28/5/2003: I've put a new screen (with a progressbar without block progress) online, this time I think it should be doable to make a bootsplash config file. As I'm having exams in two weaks, I currently don't have the time to make the config file, but within a month or so, I'll make a config file so that you really can boot with this splashscreen!

27/5/2003: The download now contains the GIMP files with text layers for every common distribution.

I wonder, isn't slack a common distro?

hi, i like this theme.
because of the problems with bootsplash when using a newer 2.6 kernel, splashutils/fbsplash are commonly used (tell me if i'm wrong).
unfortunatly this theme has some problems with that. i changed the config, so everyone may just copy and use this great theme again:

############# content of 1024x768.cfg: ######

# bgcolor is the text background (i.e. transparent) color.
bgcolor=0

# tw/th is the width/height of the text window in pixels.
tx=0
ty=120
tw=1024
th=648

#truetype font text
text_x=420
text_y=630
text_size=18
text_color=0xffffff

# name of the picture file (full path recommended)

##########################################

you have to rename "bootsplash-1024x768.jpg" -> "verbose-1024x768.jpg"

directory structure:

/etc/splash/BlackTux/images/verbose-1024x768.jpg
/etc/splash/BlackTux/images/silent-1024x768.jpg
/etc/splash/BlackTux/1024x768.cfg

thats it, have fun !

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
