Description:

I made this splash-screen from the photo that I made in Paris '96 and it is one of my favourites. I hope you'll like it too.
Icons are from GNOME project.
There is also version without the black border on my homepage.

 Install KDE 3.1.2

Looks really great!
I have a question though: Kde overrides the default splashscreen with another one which I don't know where it is saved, hence I cannot see the Tree splash even though I did everything as in the installation instructions (when I execute the ksplash binary manually it shows the Tree splash). When I try to choose your splash screen in the Control Center it asks me for a "Theme.rc" or something similiar. Do you have any idea how I should install this Splashscreen then? I really want it :).

Hi,
I'm glad you like it. For your problem, I guess you extracted the archive also with the parent directory. As far as I know, the .png files must be directly under .kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics/ directory.
You can also use KSplashManager (http://themes.kde.org/content/show.php?content=2562) for setting the splash screen.

Yes, I used the ksplashmanager and installed it, but I still get another splashscreen by KDE. :(
Ok, I did the following: I searched where my KDE is storing all those splashscreens and came to a folder called /usr/share/apps/ksplashml/Themes/.
KDE 3.1.2 seems to allow splashscreens with Theme.rc file only. Now I looked at one of these files and it's easy: all the images are still stored the same way, except that they now have a Themes.rc file with them where you can write some info in. For Example:

[KSplash/ML Theme: Crystal]
Engine=Legacy

Most also have an image called Preview.png which is used for preview purposes in the KDE Control Center.
I added the same to your splash screen, just copied everything in a folder called "Tree" in the Themes folder, changed the Theme name to Tree and now I can select your splashscreen in the control panel. Now it works, great, just like the Czech beer tastes :)

It's interesting, I have 3.1.2 (compiled from sources) and I have just $KDEDIR/share/apps/ksplash/pics/ where the default splash resides.
But it's good to know that it does not work everywhere. Next time I will also make the package with Themes.rc.
Thanks.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
