Description:

Simple plasmoid to run commands with support for runners.
Developed and tested on KDE 4.3.0 (Mandriva 2010.0 beta).

Warning!
Starting from v2.1 applet requires KDE 4.3 (because of runner match configuration).

There are problems with completion box and disappearing context menu (Qt GraphicsView bugs) if you try using it on panel (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179541).

Features:
- optional use of runners;
- possibility to open web addresses (including searching, example: gg:query), invoke mailer, open directories and files (including use of KIO);
- possibility to run command in terminal (by prepending it by dollar sign - $);
- simple calculator (example: =2+2);
- simple numbers converter (to binary, octal and hexadecimal systems; examples: bin=12, oct=10, hex=8);
- commands to manage session (logout, lock, switch, shutdown, reboot);
- auto run of command after selecting;
- commands history shared with KRunner;
- activation shortcut.

If you have found bugs or have suggestions you can contact me via email, message or using comments, before you will vote bad. And remember that not everybody has enough time for fast replying. ;-)

Changelog:

2.1 (14.09.2009):
- added possibility to to select match using [Shift + ] Tab and allow to trigger it using Enter or Return;
- added possibility to adjust match configuration (if has it) before running it (press configure icon or Shift + Enter with focused match);
- added tool tip for combo box;
- improved stability.

2.0 (07.08.2009):
- added initial and experimental support for runners;
- fixed not working commands completion;
- improved resizing on desktop.

 Good work

 by admoore on: Aug 17 2009

This is nice but I have few small issues:

- Text is always black, which makes it invisible with my plasma theme. Needs to follow theme text color or have configurable color.

- Right-click context menu appears below the mouse cursor. This makes it not very useful when the widget is in a bottom panel.

- Can't resize it when I put it in the panel, and panel spacers can't shrink it, so it's taking up about 2/3 of my panel. Not a big deal, but annoying.

Thanks!

Thanks for reports. :-)

1. Strange, I'll try to set palette explicitly also for line edit, should solve problem.

2.Quote:

3. You can try to use static size of spacer. Uncheck "Set flexible size" and drag edge when panel controller is shown. Should help.
There should be global setting for applets size in panels, done similarly to that of spacer.

There is problem with changing text color for combo box, because it also changes text color of completion box and sometimes makes it not usable...

I understand that; as I'm finding out quickly, doing much with plasmoid appearance is a tricky business. Hopefully it will be easier in the future, it sounds like the plasma devs are going to make some changes to the way plasma deals with customizations on nativeWidget() objects.

Oh BTW, the spacer thing was user error on my part; I was using an old, pre-4.2 beta version of panel spacer and didn't realize it.

Yeah, it is not so easy to do it right, in this case combo box / line edit backgrounds are transparent (in window styles they usually have solid background) and text has always the same color (there is probably no mechanism to check if it will be contrast to background)... In case of Combo box there is additionally problem with completion boxes.

Anyway, I'll try to ask developers what could be done to at least workaround this.

strange but until today's kde update I had readable text in the plasmoid but now it's black on black. K Desktop Environment Version 4.3.3 (KDE 4.3.3) "release 182".

But the results window that pops up with matched is white text on blackbackground

at least as I can remember since I usually use alt+F2, but I think it had been usable befor
