Plasmoid resizeable borders

This is like simple clone of windows behavior putted into plasmoid.

Look at the screenshot
1. desktop is locked
2. unlocking the desktop at first its chaings nothing in plasmoid behavior and look, but when the mouse cursor appears at plasmoid then the 3 options appears: close, options, rotate. The difference is that they appears inside plasmoid.

As You can see there is no 'resize button' because when the desktop plasmoids are unlocked, the all borders behave like window. You can change the size of the plasmoid just by clicking on any border.

3. When the size of plasmoid is to small, the options should go outside with the most simplest and the smallest possible (useful) graphical space.
Those buttons appears almost with all cases over the plasmoids. When plasmoid is to close to the top of the desktop, then they appears at the bottom. Never from left or right side. Current behavior of this is to unpredictable, and very hard to understand for newbies.

How to move them? Maybe just click on the plasmoid anywhere, and move (?). As a alternative we can add 4th button - "move".

I think when there is more similarities with doing things on desktop with different stuff like windows or plasmoids, the Desktop appears more friendly for the end user.

Also minimizing jumping from nowhere big buttons could brings little peace for some people :).

Hope You like it.

 Another good idea

I really like this one, especially considering the "handle" that contains the buttons when widgets are unlocked can be maddening sometimes (I can't count how many times I've had to chase that thing from side to side). The only thing here that you might reconsider is the placement of the buttons within the widget. From the way it looks for how you have it, many widgets would need to be updated to put the buttons in the best place for that particular widget. Furthermore, many people prefer to leave their widgets unlocked-- as pictured, key parts of the widget may be covered up whenever hovered. How about instead, a *tiny* set of those three buttons in the top-right corner which zooms to usable size on hover?

Sorry if it seems like I keep nitpicking your ideas; I like where you're going with these. Keep 'em coming.

I think this should apply also to the Panels.

The size of the panel is the same when its locked or unlocked. This is not good, because when the button for changing thinks in it appear it moves some icons much closer to each other. This behavior I think its not quite good, the panel looks little different in those two different modes.

When user finally change the panel in his way (and he is happy about this) and lock it, he/she discovers that the panel looks little different. It shouldn’t be happening - it should looked the same.

So maybe two buttons would appear outside the pannel:
* configuration button
* move button

What You think?

I think You right - if its not possible to implement natively in plasmoids form the KDE part, changing it in all plasmoids individually would be very difficult.

But I will leave my idea for further comments :) ... maybe in KDE 5 would bring something that would make this or make it much better :).

it sure can be done right now, but doing a good handle isn't so simple as it may seem.
In your idea what would happen if the title of the plasmoid is as large as the plasmoid itself? It would cover the buttons. And if the plasmoid reacts to the mouse click in all of its sourface an external handle would still be needed to move it.

"In your idea what would happen if the title of the plasmoid is as large as the plasmoid itself? It would cover the buttons."

- Thats why buttons inside plasmoids should appear only for the biggest. What happened when someone want to have this one huge plasmoid that is the size of the whole screen? Where are the buttons? I had this problem many times ...

Oh! Another IDEA -"full screen" button : ). It just came to me ; )

"And if the plasmoid reacts to the mouse click in all of its sourface an external handle would still be needed to move it."

- thats why I have proposed forth button - "move". Its just not in the screenshot.

Great! I've just installed KDE 4.5.81 and what I have found?

Pager settings -> virtual desktop - Diffrent widgets for each desktop!

Yours improvment is much better than my own idea : )

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
