Description:

So, this is my mockup of oxygen menu. I don\'t like the current one. The idea is, that when a menu comes from an app that is on the panel, it should look like a popup. What I don\'t like is the name of the app in the menu. For example, when I right click on akgregator, I know that this menu belongs to akregator, and I don\'t need the app name in the menu. I like oxygen, but what is pissing me off are the shortcuts for actions in the menu. I think that it would be nice to make an option that will diasble them. Icons in the menu should be optional, too.

sorry for my bad english.

This is not about Plasma. It's the programs menu. Like when you right click the Akregator tray icon.

Well having app names there has its reason. Consider two same tray icons (apps made independently of each other and/or not knowing about the other using the same icon) for two completely different apps. To take it even further, consider they would both have same menu entries, but both would do different things. Yeah that's too edgy, but still, same icons (some generic tray icon for example) is pretty much possible. And because they are always run in different order, you'll never know which one is which...

As it is* with the tooltips, the popup menus for tray icons are handled by the application that is represented by that icon.

So, GTK applications have GTK menus, Qt apps Qt menus, ... so they have GTK and Qt styles respectively.

* the icons and tooltips are being switched to be handled by the tray, but I don't think that menus are also... (it would probably be too much)

It's impossible even with Qt apps only?

Theoretically yes, but it would need to be implemented in every application... or as a global style (in oxygen, plastik...) ... and there would be problems detecting whether a popup was made by a tray icon so that a custom style should be applied to it.

But after standarisation and wider adoption of new systray spec this won't be a problem (but we will probably need to wait at least one year or more...). ;-)

Not sure whether popup menus are covered by the new specs.

And what about theming? Is it possible, to make the desktop menu look the same as Plasma theme? When you made the gruped taskbar look like that, i think that's possible with the menu. Ofc i mean the desktop menu, not windows menus.

Everything that is /in/ plasma is possible to have plasma theme.

It is just a matter of developer of that particular thing whether it will have it.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
