 good work

by jospoortvliet on: Aug 7 2009

Nice work on this! Esp combined with the other tool for the splash. Maybe this would be worth getting into KDE by default - having this as an option in the config dialogs for splashscreens and KDM themes (create splas/KDM theme from current desktop) would really rock!

If you want any help in getting it in there, let me know. I can't help with code but I do know cool people :D

Thanks. I don't have the time and not the knowledge to integrate this in KDE. I created a gitorious project for people who want work on it.

I would like this to be automatic. If the user have checked a checkbox, themes will be automatically updated when plasma, wallpaper, icons change.

Time is a valid argument, knowledge is not ;-)
Being able to write this in the first place is more than enough proof that you could do this, esp with the help of some friendly KDE dev. If you're interested in learning more, send an email to David Faure, he certainly knows who works on the KDM and splash screen stuff.

Anyway, yes, it would be cool to have it automated. Another cool thing would be to allow the theme to have a specific name. So you give a name on the commandline and that's the name for the resulting theme.

BTW it didn't find my background properly, I use a self-selected file from my own wallpaper collection. It put the default Air wallpaper in there instead of the one I selected...

I say knowledge because for properly work, Plasma, Ksplash and Kdm must be modified. It is too hard for me.

Not currently. In my free time, I work on Rekonq. I believe the lack of webbrowser in KDE (in a working state) is a more critical problem than splash screen.

Yes, there are bugs in the wallpaper detection.
I will invest a bit and upload a version with modifications previously proposed.

ReKonq? way cool, and yes, you're right, that's very important.

Tnx in advance for fixing the detection stuff ;-)

 Doesn't work with 4.3

by maxf on: Sep 12 2009

In 4.3 (at least on my system) the path to the wallpaper is in plasma-desktop-appletsrc not in plasma-appletsrc... ;)

 Some improvements?

by ssuominen on: Nov 5 2009

I've added this to Gentoo's portage as kde-misc/kdmthemegenerator, but...

Can you include the instructions in a README file?

Can you add a COPYING file with the GPL-2 license to the source package?

Can you make the tarball versioned, as -0.8.tar.gz

Great theme generator. Always wanted a smooth transition b/t kdm, splash and desktop.

Thanks.
