Submitted:  May 30 2007
Updated:  Jun 21 2009

Description:

I tried to make theme for daily using that can be easy configured for any system.
Now it shows temperatures, fans speed, disk space, system load, network information and notes.

Comments are welcome

Require:
- superkaramba
- lm_sensors
- hddtemp
- p7zip (for opening archive)
- kwrite (for notes, you can use any other editor)

lm_sensors:
- You can install lm_sensors with "emerge -Dva lm_sensors" or "apt-get install lm_sensors" or something else as root.
- Configure sensors with "sensors-detect" as root. Check it with "sensors".
- Daemon must be started by default. In Gentoo "rc-update add lm_sensors default && /etc/init.d/lm_sensors restart".
http://www.lm-sensors.org

hddtemp:
- Install it with "emerge -Dva hddtemp" or "apt-get install hddtemp" or something else as root.
- Configure hddtemp with "nano /etc/conf.d/hddtemp".
- Daemon must be started by default. In Gentoo "rc-update add hddtemp default && /etc/init.d/hddtemp restart".

 Configurations?

by zeifertstc on: Jun 9 2007

I like this superkaramba theme quite well. My only question about it is how do I configure the network meter so that it is reading my preferred connection instead of default eth0? I would like to change it to read my wlan0.

You need to fix up "***Network sensors***" section. Open Dartchik.theme in Kate or in any other text editor and change every nas0 to the name of your connetion.
P.S. Default is nas0, not eth0 ;)

Cool theme, but why on earth did you use 7zip to compress it?

I used every archiver:
Quote:
$ ls -l *k.*
-rw------- 1 nikoli nikoli 9761 17 21:02 Dartchik.7z
-rw-r--r-- 1 nikoli nikoli 14253 29 13:22 Dartchik.rar
-rw-r--r-- 1 nikoli nikoli 11660 29 13:16 Dartchik.tar.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 nikoli nikoli 10533 29 13:16 Dartchik.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 nikoli nikoli 15530 29 13:16 Dartchik.zip

The 7zip results are the best. It is open source and can be used with konqueror and ark after installing p7zip. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7zip Why don't you like it?

 What Program?

Please excuse my ignorance, but which program is dartchik theming? Is it stand alone? I tried opening the .theme file with superkaramba, but to no avail. How do I use this incredible looking theme?

You need to install and configure superkaramba, lm_sensors, hddtemp, p7zip. I have changed description.

Ok, I figured out that it wasn't just a PEBKAC error. For some reason it will not show itself when I run it through superkaramba. When I started superkaramba through the Konsole, I get a repeating output of:

localhost [127.0.0.1] 7634 (?) : Connection refused
nas0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
localhost [127.0.0.1] 7634 (?) : Connection refused
localhost [127.0.0.1] 7634 (?) : Connection refused
Network sensor: can not find nas0
nas0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 20
Minor opcode: 0
Resource id: 0x2a01959

I am assuming that I can only change the options for the nas0 to eth0 through the GUI, but the GUI wont persist. The lm_sensors is my fault because I don't want to restart my computer to get them to work after installing them. Any ideas why the window wont show?

Try edit theme for you hardware and OS. Open theme in Kate or any other text editor and change every nas0 to the name of your connection. Also you should change logical disks setting. May be it will help.

If it won't help say versions of kde and superkaramba, are they too old?

You not need to reboot for using lm_senors.
sensors-detect && sensors && /etc/init.d/lm_sensors restart - after this all should work.

In ubuntu you would type sudo apt-get install lm-sensors. Its hyphonated, not underscored. Although it seems even with being able to install all the dependencies, I still cant get this theme to work :(

also I forgot to add that also means you need to revise sensors-detect && sensors && /etc/init.d/lm_sensors restart

to

sensors-detect && sensors && /etc/init.d/lm-sensors restart in ubuntu.

But I'm getting

open: Permission denied
* Setting sensors limits... open: Permission denied

not sure if thats bad.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
