Description:

Retro ASCII look for Plasma.

This theme was born as a joke at the Plasma developers meeting called Tokamak 4 held in Nuremberg.

After I posted the news on my blog, a lot of people expressed the desire to have it.

*Further development*
I don't really have the time lately to work on this theme.

If you would like to help finish it, visit http://www.gitorious.org/kde-plasma-themes/ascii and start 'hacking'. :)

For more info on 'outsourcing', see http://ivan.fomentgroup.org/blog/2010/11/14/ascii-plasma-theme-and-others/

Cheerio,
Ivan

Hi,

I really like this style. :)

But my panel is blue. Do you have any idea why?

Oh, I forgot to make the opaque (for non-compositing environment) parts of theme.

I'll fix it ASAP. :)

This is actually a very nice theme. I hope you finish it.

It's clean and crisp. Has a very nice 'eye feel' to it.

Another fine product from the man who brought us Lancelot.

It takes less time to take the time to do it right the first time, than it does to fix it the second time.

 How I picture this...

The way I imagine this is that a bunch of Plasma developers got together in Nuremburg, of all places, had too much to drink at night, and woke up with the sickening realization that they had designed something clean, simple, unpretentious, and easy to read.

Well, whatever it takes. I've been praying for something like this! The analog clock is pretty ugly, so I use the elegance clock, but other than that I don't have to tweak anything. Everything looks good, but more important, everything is visible at all times. I can let the wallpaper run on a slide show, and nothing is going to come up at any time that will make a part of my display unreadable.

I'd love to see this available in a wide variety of bold colors. Dark green comes to mind, maybe a dark red.

Can't tell you how much this helps me resolve my epic ambivalence to KDE4. My biggest problem is that I can't stop compulsively tweaking the desktop because the more complex a theme is, the harder it is to make it look good. Here's a theme that I can just forget about. Thank you! Thank you!

For god's sake, don't be afraid to think INSIDE the box from time to time!

Heh, well, believe it or not, the idea came to me in the morning, so we hadn't anything to drink before that.

I /was/ in a state of bliss at the time since I found one of my favourite candies - turkish baklava, but nothing more than that :)

As for the colour themes, maybe later when I find the time.

And, as for the clock, yes, it is ugly, but I can't think of a pretty clock that will be ascii-like.

I can imagine your schedule dictates priorities other than this Theme, but it would be really nice if you could find enough time to finish it.

Yes, I'm bad... I will, the question I don't know the answer to is 'when'.

Probably after KDE SC 4.5 is released - there is much work to be done development-wise, I rarely get any free-time for artwork.

Cheerio

Thank you for the reply. I'll look forward to seeing this Theme finished 'one day' then. :)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
