Description:

That's a mockup of a Media Player, with database capabilities, for KDE4. I was thinking about combining all the best features found on several media players in market [Amarok, Windows Media Player, iTunes, Songbird, Totem, etc (offline/online audio/video player - youtube player, etc)], into one and single media player.
What say you?

Changelog:

Update #1
I've added the "Collection" tab mockup and the media informations for movies.

Update #2
I've added the "Devices" tab mockup.

 Well done!

These mockups are really nice! I already like Amarok 2 but these mockups would take Amarok to next level. I hope to see this kind of Amarok in the future.

 Start working on the player

by SfietKonstantin on: Jun 20 2009

Hi, I'm new in the KDE community, and I'm not satisfied by amarok 2, so, I want to build my own player. Then, I found this mockup, that is, for me, the perfect player.

So, I'm trying to build it, using the amarok engine, and some parts, so it is sort of a fork.

Now, I'm focusing on the ui, not functionnality, that will come after, and I have a little problem :

How to find a good visualisation engine ? Amarok 1.x uses XMMS one, but I don't know where to find them, and how to use them. Any help ?

Hehe, not good enough to make it.
And I have no time to afford this project, so it's already over !

Let the Amarok team do it.

This design is fantastic, I dont know if it can be used just for this application or in general... I am going to start a new project in about a month (lyrics and chord organization) and I hope for a design like this.... Fantastic one more time.....
Congratulation

 Looks good but...

by anoneemouse on: Aug 25 2009

This player looks great, but I think it leaves a lot to be desired and a lot of questions.
Where are the repeat and shuffle buttons?
How will you get artist Bios and movie information like that?
The collection browser seems too narrow. I have a load of songs. The best collection browser I have found is in Winamp because it has customizable views and shows a ton of information. A treeview is hardly practical.
The time displays are too small. Once again another plus of winamp is that the time display is larger. Show the important info big. The current track imo is too small and in the wrong place.

This player is very similar to Amarok 2.x and makes the same mistakes, but with more shiny graphics.

I Hope that amarok 2.x will eventually reach the 1.4 glory, but I don't think this mockup is the way, even though it can give some hints as to what looks good. It can't give hints to usability.

There are also many people like myself that don't want a movie player mixed in with music. Why!? Because i Don't want a video to pop up while I'm doing other stuff, I want music to play.

This media player looks really nice...
I'm in fact trying to create it right now. But as I've no experience with Qt and no real experience with C++ it could take a while, but I think my progress until now is good.
