2D accelerated Task bar

KDE4 Brainstorm

Score 61%
Downloads:  144
Submitted:  Nov 11 2006

Description:

Everybody now know the composé like effect whith compiz ( beryl ? ) that show every window miniaturized on the sreen. Thats very nice.

1 )
I was thinking that the taskbar may do the same whith the window under the mouse.
If you have grouped windows, when on the group incon, you can see all these windows, and then hovering on the list, it zoom in the good windows.

2)
Bun finaly, I'd prefer every app providing a good plasmoid containing the app related info so that the taskbar display this plasmoid when moose is hovered over the app icon ( no longer difference between systray/taskbar ).

For instance, amarok commes whith a default plasmoid whith: Icon ( behaving as the curent systray, coloring folowing song percentage ), play, pause, next, last, volume.
When hovered, it displays artist, title etc..., and when click on the icon, it opens the amarok windows. Of course, anybody can make an other plasmoid with direrent look, less fuctions ( no play pause ... )

I like part two. Don't know about part one. I'd have to see it.

part 1 already exists, its called taskbar2 http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=31611
I have it installed myself and its very useful to see if the task that you are waiting for s ready or not wihtout having to open the window, just hovering the mouse in the taskbar.
Very good idea though but someone post it first :)

Not exactly.
I am speaking of a full screen "thumbnail", and if you have grouped windows, it rearange these "thumbnails" to take the maximum space on screen, as you can see here :
http://files.myopera.com/nzMM/albums/44209/compiz_expose.png
for instance.
But this can filter whitch windows have to be displayed or depending of the mouse position.

... is just great! This would improve usability and is original. The problem here is, I guess, is that every app must implement this feature apart from KDE4. But is a really good idea.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
