Can someone tell me a good way to get a screen shot from my KDM login?

I tried to use my digital cam but the image is very bad, is there a better way?

I haven't tried this but could try starting an old X11 graphics app from /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0. Something like xwd or import from ImageMaqick or maybe even the Gimp!

You could try starting a non-KDE image grabber from /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0, something like xwd or import or perhaps even the Gimp.

Try running xwd(1) from a terminal or a remote connection (e.g. xwd -out screen.dump -display localhost:0)
It should be installed with your X11/XOrg distribution.

You probably want to convert the dump to a more sane image format afterwards. Use a tool like convert(1) of the ImageMagick package.

you can do it with terminal gdm/kdm theme test, when theme is on the show use "print screen". (eee i forgot the code!)

or design it with gimp same as real one.

Did you have a look if X11 has hotkeys to do a screenshoot? - that would work.
Maybe you have to configure XF86Config-4 for that. Or maybe you find a X11 app. for that, that you can load before KDM in runlevel 5.
Good luck !!!

i needed that too. took me a while, but finally, here's a good way :

- install xephyr (very much like xnest, but better)

- edit /etc/kde3/kdm/kmrc (path may vary), and add/make sure that the following code is present (without quotes) :
"[Xdmcp]
Enable=true
Willing=/etc/kde3/kdm/Xwilling
Xaccess=/etc/kde3/kdm/Xaccess"

- edit /etc/kde3/kdm/Xaccess :
"192.168.1.* CHOOSER BROADCAST
localhost"
second line is mandatory.

- run something like "Xephyr :1 -query localhost -screen 1280x1024 &"

xephyr launches, connects to your computer and displays kdm. you can even log in to start a nested X session. when closing xephyr, if you screen goes blank, just Ctrl+Alt+F7 to come back to your active session.

hope this helps.

 Automake Manager

Is it possible to handle an extra installation of some binaries I wrote for my KDE-App.
That binaries I wrote in NASM so I don't think KDevelop can handle compilation with NASM - that would be of course better.
The binaries should be installed in the same path - $KDEDIR/bin.

 KPackage ideas...

 by AnXa on: Feb 21 2007

Score 50%

Add more features to KPackage. For example you should add support for RPM/Deb package servers so that you could use it to collect automaticly updates. And otherwise it's developement should be geared more towards to Synaptic installer. It's a shame that there still ain't standard package installer for every KDE platform, just package manager which doesn't do much good. Updating packages thought it is and would be extremely handly feature in KDE4. It would help intergrating desktop and make updating a lot easier for most people.

I am aware that my thought ain't purely realistic, since support for installing packages should be found from packagemanager itself too. RPM and Deb support these packages. Sources.list kind of working would acctually make sence. What do you think about it?

 obsolette packages

 by AnXa on: Feb 21 2007

Score 50%

In KDE3 we have a lot of obsolette packages like lilo-config in KControl center. Linux Source config is another obsolette package from kde2. I vote here that these and other obsolettes which are no longer used by majority of users should be teared off from kde sources and made available as separated package for those who wish to continue using them in kde4.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
