Hi, I have the same problem and I solved it by making sure that superkaramba starts after beryl kicks in. Beryl is replacing the window manager and it seems as if a new desktop window is placed over the old one (which is running the superkaramba themes). If you start superkaramba after that beryl is finished loading, the themes are displayed in a proper way.

I am starting beryl-manager from the ~/.kde/Autostart directory and I have a karamba startup script in the same directory. In the karamba startup script I put a sleep 30 and this solved the problem. I am sure that there is a better way to do it, but at least this is working for me.

Regards

Raymond

 kdm theme problem

 by liviu on: Mar 18 2007

Score 50%

hi,
i want to change de login theme from the default FedoraDNA to circles but everything i try doesn't work. (my system is fedora core 6 whith kde 3.5.6)

first, i edited the file /etc/X11/xdm/kdmrc and changed the line
Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/FedoraDNA
with Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/circles
there was also a UseTheme=true wich i left untouched.
i restarted X but got the same default theme.

next, i installed kdm theme manager, fired it up and changed the theme again (it saw the theme previously edited by me). i restarted X but with the same result.

finaly, i backed up the FedoraDNA directory and replaced the files in it with the files from the circles directory, edited the files and replaced every ocurence of "circles" with "FedoraDNA". restarted X... no luck.

i have no other ideas; could somebody tell me how to get rid of the default theme?

Are you sure it is using KDM, it may be using a different one, eg. XDM or GDM.

thanks for your reply. yes, you are right. after googling for a while i realised this was the problem. changed my /etc/inittab to skip the prefdm script and start kdm directly and now everything is ok.
thanks again

 FC2 Theme Problems

 by mguyer on: Mar 21 2007

Score 50%

I have tried to install the KDE login screens on Fedora Core 2 but keep having problems. When I install the theme everything looks to be fine. After I select the theme I installed and log off to check if it works, I get an error saying the specific theme I loaded will not run. The error window has an OK button but nothing happens when I click it. So I'm stuck at that error and cannot get into FC2. I tried to use the rescue disk but I still get the same error and cannot continue. This is the second time this has happened to me trying to install themes. The first time I just reloaded the machine but I would really like to find out how to get past that error message and disable the theme. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

To disable theme:
Edit $KDEDIR/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

Find the line:

UseTheme=True

change it to red

UseTheme=false

What is the error you get?
Is it unable to parse the config file?
After you click ok, it should automatically come up with a grey login box, the one defined in KControl, under Login Manager.

The error is "Bad stock label type". When i hit ok it does nothing. I can't get past that screen. I got into $KDEDIR/share/config/kdm/kdmrc but I cannot find a UseTheme= setting in it. There is a UseSHM=false setting but that is the only thing close to UseTheme=. I installed the theme for KDE but since this happened I cannot get into Gnome or KDE. I'm just stuck right there before the login screen. The theme i used was CleanXdark. Please let me know if you have anything else to suggest or if you need anymore info. Thanks. mguyer

I finally figured it out. I had to go into runlevel 3 by hitting a at the OS selection menu and then typing 3 at the end of the command. Then when the console came up i logged in as root and typed the "startx" command which bypassed the login screen. Then i was able to uninstall the theme that didn't work and now all is well. Thanks so much for the replies and hopefully this info will help someone else who runs into this problem.

 Preview doesn't work

Hi all!

Whenever I click any of the "Zoom" buttons to enlarge a preview on this site, all I get is a popup with a blank page. The title of the window seems right.

I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.10 on Kubuntu Dapper Drake.

With Konqueror it works, but I don't want to use Konqueror, and I believe the web should be an open place that does not favor certain browsers. The way it is now, kde-look is pretty unusable for me.

Thanks in advance,
Martin

 Kicker tiles

Does anybody know how to install your own tiles for the button backgrounds? I have searched for ages and found nothing.

I put my tiles in the directory where the default tiles are kept, and they don't show up in the panel configuration. So I have been searching my computer for a .desktop or an rc file and I can't find anything, can anybody help me?

 Weak install docs?

 by inigo on: Apr 22 2007

Either the install docs need to be updated, or people's submissions really need to be checked before they're put up.

I've downloaded 7 or 8 various themes, be they icons or themes/styles and not a single one contains a theme file that KDE can just up an install from the Control Center.

They all seem to have an index.desktop file. I'm guessing this file is crucial somehow, but Control Center doesn't give a rip about it.

Short of that I'm left with directories upon directories of countless single png files. Nothing that can just be installed like Control Center wants to do.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
