 KDM theme instalatio

 by Tuxsel on: Feb 12 2006

Score 50%

Hi,

I am a gentoo user, i have installd kde-3.5.1 and now i am trying to install login-scan-fusion kdm theme. This is what i did:

# Download and unzip the theme archive.
# Put the theme folder in ~/.kde/share/apps/kdm/themes
# Edit your ~/.kde/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
# Change or add the line Theme=~/.kde/share/apps/kdm/themes/"THEMENAME"

nano /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
I added this line Theme=/usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/kdm/themes/"login-scan-fusion"

And i also did what in the readme files is explaind :
To use 'login-scan 'fusion'' as kdm-theme:

1. untar the package 'login-scan-fusion.tar.bz2'

2. set .../login-scan-fusion/Background.png as background-image in KDE Control Center -> System Administration -> Login Manager

3. install the theme in KDE Control Center -> System Administration -> kdmtheme

4. use the splashscreen 'login-scan-splash'.
can be found on http://www.kde-look.org/

THe first 2 steps was easy, i am stuck now on 3th stap . I cant find kdmtheme in System Administration.

This is my system:
Kernel = 2.6.15 Gentoo
KDE =3.5.1
KDM = 3.5.1

I stil cant get kdm theme work.

Help plz,

Tuxsel

I just had to change the following lines in /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdm/kdmrc:

UseTheme=true
Theme=/usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/kdm/themes/circles

 Screenshots problem

 by Emx on: Mar 7 2006

Score 50%

Hi everybody, when I changed my KWire theme screenshot I wanted to replace it, but the picture (Screenshot 1) which already exists on the kde-look.org cannot be overwriten. Because of that my Splash Screen doesn't have screenshot #1, only screenshot #2. Is there any way to overwrite this screensot which exists? I tried that trough "Edit" option, but it simply doesn't work. Instead of new picture it uses old screenshot.
Help!

After installing programs, such as Tavia Browser via rpm, how do I start the program? It does not show up on my "star" menu or on my desktop.

Thanks!

the button in the startmenu has nothing to do with the app itself - it just may not carry a link or the link is installed into a wrong location

if you know the apps executable filename (command), you can start it by pressing alt+f2 (or open any kind of terminal, try "konsole") and then entering the command and press enter, it will start up.
you can also add links to the startmenu or buttons to kicker if you want to avoid typing the command in the future

You may also want to check the rpm files for binaries.

Try

rpm -qlp | grep bin

if that does not help, there are probably no binaries included. Maybe the program is an addon, e.g. kicker applet.

 KMail Icons

 by sphere on: Mar 13 2006

Score 50%

I recently converted the Tango icon set into a native KDE icon set. (So I don't have to do patches and whatnot just to install some icons) My problem is that the icons in KMail use the fallback set of icons (Crystal) when I run Kmail directly (alt+F2, kmail). However if I run Kontact and open Mail I see the Tango iconset. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
